Microsoft patenta el uso de las teclas RePag y AvPag
Un pobrecito hablador nos cuenta: «Haciendo mi recorrido por las páginas de hardware que frecuento, me encuentro perplejo ante una noticia que se gestó hace 3 años: Microsoft patenta el uso de las teclas AvPag y RePag e incluso podemos ver el documento de la patente. Sin duda, increíble.»
Un extracto de la descripción de la patente que se le acaba de conceder a Microsoft: "un método y sistema para desplazar verticalmente un incremento sustancialmente exacto en un documento". Y un ejemplo de arte previo hace un cuarto de siglo. Más información, en ZDNet, donde aseguran que el gigante de Redmond se está aproximando a las diez mil patentes. ¿Serán todas como esta?
Update: 09/03 00:34 GMT by Y : Lo que se patenta exactamente no son las teclas sino un "method and system for navigating paginated content in page-based increments", poniendo como ejemplo de implementación mediante las teclas citadas. Si la patente sobre una función de esas teclas supone por sí mismo un invento es ya materia interpretable.

Viva el sensacionalismo barato...
(Puntos:2, Informativo)Veamos, si nos hubiéramos molestado en leer la patente, veríamos que lo que los señores de Redmond patentan no es "Av.Pag." y "Re.Pag.", sino un método que, respondiendo a "por ejemplo estas teclas", muestre documentos de una forma determinada.
Dicho de otra forma: no se patentan las teclas, ni siquiera el sistema de representación tradicional asociado a esas teclas, sino un sistema de representación de documentos totalmente nuevo.
Lo pone bien claro:
1. Eso les permite:
- Defenderse de otras patentes inútiles, amenazzando con tus patentes ridículas. Si el juez ve bien las suyas, puede que vea bien las tuyas.
- Hablar en números grandes cuando digan cuantas patentes poseen. El número de patentes es como un "activo". Eso les permite negociar mejor con otras empresas.
- Tener con lo que ceder, y la opinión pública le dará la razón, y dirá que buenos són. "Microsoft cede 5000 patentes".
- Fortalece el sistema de patentes. Mucha gente, en su ignorancia, pensará: "lo que falla no es el sistema de patentes, sino que se concenden patentes inútiles. Las patentes son positivas, si se concenden cuando tienen que concederse". En realidad, todo el sistema de patentes es contraproducente, pero con una capa de patentes basura por encima, parece como si lo único equivocado fuesen estas patentes ridículas.

Pero si me voy a la oficina americana y busco patentes de microsoft, encuentro la friolera de 69768 patentes. http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=

Si además echáis un vistazo por curiosdidad encontramos hasta un "novedoso" sistema patentado por microsoft para detectar spyware...
"A system and method that facilitates and effectuates detection of malware secreted and/or hidden in plain sight on a machine. The system and method in order to achieve its aims generates a list of all loaded modules, identifies from the list a set of modules common to more than a threshold number of processes, and eliminates from the list those modules included in an authentication list. The resultant list is prioritized based, in one instance, on the number of occurrences a particular module makes in the resultant list, and thereafter the list is distributed analyst workstations."
Traducción:
Un sistema y método que facilita y detecta la presencia de spyware oculto o camuflado a simple vista en la máquina. El sistema, para alcanzar sus objetivos genera una lista de todos los módulos cargados, identifica la lista de un conjunto de módulos comunes a más de un umbral de número de procesos, y elimina de la lista los módulos incluidos en una lista de autenticación. La lista resultante es la prioridad basada, en un caso, sobre el número de apariciones de un módulo hace a la lista resultante, y, posteriormente, la lista se distribuye al analista de las estaciones de trabajo.
En fin, que busca en una lista los archivos que son malos y los elimina. al final envía un reporte al usuario diciendo que ha eliminado un spyware... lo que hacen todos los antivirus y antispywares desde que aparecieron... vaya novedad.
En fin, muchas veces las patentes son tan abstractas que se pueden aplicar a demasiadas cosas. Es normal que todo el mundo viole alguna patente de microsoft, si patenta hasta el doble clic, como han dicho antes. Lo que ocurre es que lo patentan con una descripción que podrían reclamar hasta el triple clic, y todas las veces que hacemos clic en un programa porque no se abre....
En fin, que como ya se ha dicho, el problema no son las patentes, sino el sistema de patentes. Microsoft y otras empresas (culpamos siempre a microsoft pero hay muchos más ogros) simplemente aprovechan esto para sus fines.
Se trata de ver que es lo que no está patentado y hacerlo antes que la competencia.
