    Hi,

I am reading this site via Babelfish. It does quite a good job! :)

There is a problem with your argument: it is very hard to ensure that it's compulsory for users to use apt. There are no distributions today that force you to use apt, the user can always run Loki Setup based installers. In fact that's important because many fun games are shipped this way.

I dislike the idea that we should make it hard for the user to do what they want. Unless it's on a managed network (ie inside a company) the computer should serve the user at all times. It should not try and second guess its owner. If the user is about to do something stupid we should warn them, ensure they understand the consequences of their actions, but we should not try and stop them.

So, autopackage does not change anything with respect to malware. It is already possible to write malware for Linux by writing your own installer. If we want to fight it, we must do so in other more robust ways.

    thanks -mike
