Your graphics card does not need to support Direct3D10. Our libraries handle functionality that is missing from your card. You obviously won't get the same speed as if your card supported it, but depending on the speed of your CPU, most games should be fully playable.

But since DX10 provides almost no extra features, just faster execution, what will be the point?

DX10 brings geometry shaders and a much more friendly API. In theory, it should cut development time considerably. As for the purpose, it brings DX10 games to users of platforms other than Vista, and for developers it makes their lives easier.

This is great news. I've got a very high end system and had no wish to get Vista just to enjoy DX10 features in games that use DX10 (SupCom, Crysis are the two that spring to mind right away). It basically means for gamers that there's no incentive to get Vista anymore. Good luck with the project and I can't wait to see the results.
