Quake por ejemplo hace esto. Reserva 16 megas de memoria. Y cuando necesita alojar cosas, los aloja ahi. Esto evita las llamadas al sistema operativo, que son lentas, o peor, inpredecibles. Ademas da seguridad, pues viene con un editor de leaks. Y un comandito de consola para ver lo que hay en la memoria (pues los bloques se reservan con una etiqueta de texto).
A Windows jemalloc build. The sunspider JS test looks to run about 5% faster. You'll notice that these builds take up a bit more memory initially but they should level out around 80mb. There is plenty of tuning left to do, but I'm curious to hear how these run for people after running for a long time.
